Preparandosi all’impatto, il brano narra del tira e molla durante i primi tempi di una relazione che ultimamente non durerà.
La creazione dell’EP di debutto di KIMIKO è stato un esercizio estremamente divertente e terapeutico per gli eclettici; ridendo dei suoi stessi drammi sentimentali, KIMIKO condivide: “Trovare il lato spiritoso mentre si sta attivamente risolvendo una snervante situationship dopo l’altra ha reso la realtà della cosa meno imponente e molto più frivola”.
Ormai quasi pronta a rinunciare all’amore, Emotional Whiplash è una ballata pop contemplativa che si costruisce lentamente intorno all’incantevole voce di KIMIKO. Traendo dalla sua esperienza personale, KIMIKO dice: “Emotional Whiplash è basata sull’esperienza di qualcuno che ti ricopre di attenzioni, ma che si tira indietro non appena si reciproca il comportamento. Uno mi disse al secondo appuntamento che aveva eliminato tutte le app e parlato di me ai genitori. Poi mi disse che stavo correndo troppo quando gli ho chiesto se avessimo dovuto programmare un altro appuntamento. Ironicamente, non saprei dirti quale fosse il suo nome”. Ambientato tra una inquietante stanza di manichini, un vasto deserto e un giro del toro meccanico, ognuno dei quali riflette gli estremi di una relazione instabile, il conseguente contrassegna l’impressionante debutto direttoriale di KIMIKO.
Ad ottobre 2025 KIMIKO ha pubblicato la sfacciata prima traccia dell’EP e il suo scherzoso video, Hang Out Forever?, che descrive un appuntamento che sta apparentemente andando bene ma finisce estremamente male ed estende il suo ingresso nella musica. Con tante novità in arrivo, KIMIKO ha in programma di consolidarsi nel proprio vivace universo musicale, che espone le sue esperienze passate attraverso testi spensierati e brutalmente onesti e una produzione frizzante.

Artist, actress and performer KIMIKO announces her debut EP Modern Dance, out on May 29th, anticipated by her brand new single Emotional Whiplash, out now. Bracing for impact, the track chronicles the push and pull during the early stages of a relationship that ultimately won't last.
The creation of KIMIKO's debut EP was a deeply fun, therapeutic exercise for the multi-hyphenate; poking fun at her own relationship woes, KIMIKO shares, "Finding the humor while actively sorting out annoying situationship after annoying situationship made the reality of it all feel less big and way more silly."
Almost ready to give up on love, Emotional Whiplash, is a contemplative pop ballad that slowly builds around KIMIKO's dreamy vocals. Pulling from personal experience, KIMIKO says: "Emotional Whiplash is based off the experience of someone love-bombing you and then pulling back as soon as you match their energy. This one told me on the second date that he deleted all the apps and told his parents about me. Then said I was moving too fast when I asked if we should schedule another date. Hilariously, I could not tell you what his name was." Set between an eerie room of mannequins, an expansive desert and a mechanical bull ride, each mirroring the extremes of an unstable relationship, the accompanying marks KIMIKO's striking directorial debut.
In October 2025, KIMIKO shared the cheeky first track of the EP and playful video, Hang Out Forever? which chronicles a seemingly successful date that goes terribly wrong and expands her entry into music. With much more on the way, KIMIKO plans to cement herself in her own spirited musical universe that displays her lived experiences through lighthearted, brutally honest lyricism and bubbly production.
