Beatrix, nome d’arte di Arielle Kasnetz, annuncia il suo secondo album We Swallowed The Sky, in uscita il 24 aprile tramite Nice Life.

Il disco vede Arielle addentrarsi negli angoli più profondi della propria memoria, il cui filo conduttore è il ritorno della cantante ad una relazione distante nel tempo, permettendo al suo fantasma di infestare il suo amore passato. Questo fantasma è incarnato dall’acciaio che si intreccia tra passato, presente e futuro all’interno dell’album.

L’album è anticipato da un nuovo singolo e da un nuovo video, intitolato Class Reunion, in cui Kasnetz ostenta la sua abilità narrativa, dipingendo il quadro di due ex che si rincontrano dopo dieci anni, senza tralasciare alcun dettaglio per l’ascoltatore.

Il video ufficiale di Class Reunion somiglia a Twin Peaks incontra The Office, ambientato in uno sterile centro di comunità. Con una solida presa sull’ansia comune, è ipnotico il modo in cui Beatrix fissa dritto in camera, catturando lo spettatore.

Arielle Kasnetz, cantautrice di Los Angeles conosciuta con il soprannome di scena Beatrix, ha dovuto scoprire la propria voce. Per la maggior parte della sua vita si è esercitata nella musica classica, trascorrendo ore ad allenarsi con le scale vocali e studiando brani al pianoforte. Ma le storie che raccontava non erano le sue, le parole e le emozioni appartenevano a qualcun altro, vissuto molto tempo prima. È stato durante la pandemia, chiusa nella sua stanza con una chitarra acustica che qualcuno le aveva regalato qualche compleanno prima, che ha iniziato a provare a scrivere per sé stessa. 

Adesso, con il suo secondo album e debutto con Nice Life Recording Company, We Swallowed The Sky (24 aprile), esplora una relazione formativa del suo passato e gli echi che questa ha lasciato. Beatrix, stage name of Arielle Kasnetz, announces her sophomore album We Swallowed The Sky, out on April 24th via Nice Life. 

The record sees Arielle accessing the deepest recess of her memory, with the lyrical thread being the returning of the singer to a long gone relationship, allowing its ghost to haunt her former love. This ghost is embodied by the steel that weaves between the past, present and future across the album.

The album is anticipated by a new single and a new video, titled Class Reunion, where Kasnetz flexes her storytelling prowess as she paints a picture of the exes running into each other after ten years, sparing not one detail for the listener.

The official video for Class Reunion feels like Twin Peaks meets The Office, set in a sterile community center. With a firm grip around commonplace anxiety, it is mesmerizing how Beatrix stares straight into the camera and holds the viewer captive.

Arielle Kasnetz, the LA-based singer-songwriter who goes by the moniker Beatrix, had to discover her own voice. For most of her life, she trained in classical music, spending hours practicing vocal scales and learning piano pieces. But the stories she told weren’t hers, the words and the feelings somebody else’s who had lived a long time ago. It wasn’t until the pandemic, stuck in her bedroom with an acoustic guitar that someone had gifted to her a few birthdays ago, that she began to try writing for herself. 

Now, on her second album and Nice Life Recording Company debut We Swallowed The Sky (April 24), she explores a formative relationship from her past and the reverberations that it left. With an expansive, yearning sound that combines alternative singer-songwriter influences in the form of indie rock, folk and chamber-pop, it’s the sound of a songwriter as committed to honesty and self-exploration as to constant musical progression.
The songs are striking and off-kilter, full of surprising melodic turns or boldly arranged instrumentals, and careening from hushed piano numbers to loud full-band blasts. It seems fair to say that Kasnetz’s whole life led to We Swallowed The Sky; a reckoning with how the past bleeds into the present that’s moving, raw, yet perfectly crafted. It’s unmistakably Beatrix’s story, told in Beatrix’s voice.
